Veggie Type: Onion
Season: Spring through fall, stored through the winter
Peak months: June-November
Uses: Red onions generally are not a good substitute for yellow/white onions. While other onion varieties are usually eaten cooked, red onions are often served raw to show off their sweet flavor and crunchy texture. Some of the best ways to serve the raw veggie include in sandwiches, salads, or salsas. When pickled, red onions develop a vibrant pink color, and they make a gorgeous addition to a wide variety of dishes (think casseroles, tacos, wraps, or breakfast burritos)!
